Delectable soft homemade cinnamon twisted doughnut. There’s nothing more heavenly than eating a hot twisted donut coated with sugar and cinnamon. It is also fun to make than the usual round donuts.
- 3 cups All purpose flour
- 7g active dry yeast
- 30g / 2tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 cup milk ( Luke warm)
- 3tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1-2tbsp powdered sugar
- 1/2tsp cinnamon powder
- Oil to deep fry
- 1/2tsp salt
In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water / luke warm milk.
Melt the butter in a small sauce pan. Stir in milk, sugar and salt. Set aside to slightly cool before adding the egg. Once cool, add the egg and whisk until smooth. Stir in the dissolved yeast and set it aside.
Take a large bowl and add the flour. Stir in the liquid mixture slowly and knead until the dough is slightly firm. The dough may be slightly sticky. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead it for 3-4 minutes. Now place the dough in an oiled vessel and cover it with a cling film. Keep the vessel in a warm environment and allow the dough to rise until doubled in bulk. This will take approximately 40 to 60 minutes depending on the room temperature.
Once the dough has doubled in size, deflate the gas by punching the dough. Knead it again and transfer it to the same vessel. Let it sit for another 30 minutes to double in size.
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it well. Now divide the dough into 15-20 pieces depending on your liking. Shape each piece into a ball.
Roll out the ball until 12 inches long. Take each end and twist it in the opposite direction which creates more tension - which in turn makes the twist compact.Pinch the two ends together.
Heat oil in a deep frying pan to 365°F (185°C). The idea is not to burn the donuts, instead cook the donuts slowly.Fry 3-4 donuts at a time until golden brown. You can see the donuts begin to puff up.
Drain the donuts on a kitchen paper, and allow it to slightly cool. Dust them with powdered sugar and cinnamon.
